It's a pre-amp. So yes, it does gain.But it is doing a lot more! It's also an envelope follower and a gate/trigger generator. Be careful though it can also distort your signal like crazy, if you are not careful. In the video I posted earlier I use it to amplify the output of the A128 fixed filter bank, which tends to be fairly soft mostly.
