hi ethan,

first off it's a discrete design, i.e no curtis chips. second, it has
variable vc of the waveshapes, think EMS vcs3 only with vc for very
animated sounds. third, the sync input behaves differently from
doepfer. fourth, the rs95 responds linearly to input control voltages
from -10 to +10 volts, giving you a useful range of about 16 octaves.

it has it's own sound just like the A111 has a curtis like flavour. i
like both of them. i also like 2 or more a110's into a mixer and
having the lowest setting on the range, detuned and sometimes fine
detuned and having them controlled by slow envelopes and lfo's to
create mixed voltages for use as a modulation source on an other
source. i mean the possibilities are endless, it's like a blank
canvas, you just keep adding 'til it's brilliant or rubbish at which
point you start all over again.

the brilliance of a modular synth is not the amount of sources you
have but the amount of control voltage generators, modifiers and
processors you possess. the more the better. also remember that any
vc input can be automated by another source in conjunction with the
use of a vca and adding a gate delay for more controlled animations
of the sound.

now what the A100 really needs is a vc quadrature osc and a vc delay
module with every vc this and that as well as a range from 0000
milliseconds to 2 or 4 seconds, with a 4 digit display a la Korg
SDD3000 or Lexicon PCM 42 so you can dial in a precise time, positive
and negative feedback, and some type of filter to emulate tape
delays, sync input for syncing to midi or dividied clocks and a range
switch to allow for a microsecond range. this will allow you to do
analogue modelling which would definitely help the modular synthesist
in developing new sounds and textures that are not available to us
now. oh well, the last paragraph is one of my pipe dreams that hopes
it becomes someday a reality. ;)
