Hello, sorry if you've read this in other groups. I've been interested in buying a modular synth for years now and I'm finally starting to look into purchasing one. I've looked at numerous dealers and found doepfer along the way. I know very little about modular synths (can't wait to learn!) so please bear with me. I've always loved the sounds produced my the old EMS Synthi and VCS synths so I'm kind of looking to put together a similar "sounding" synth. Another attraction of the EMS synths (synthi a) is their size...I'd like to be able keep the size down as small as possible, in a case I could carry around relatively easily. I have no real interest in the typical "techno" or beat oriented sounds, I'm looking for noises (not really the typical analog blurbling, more harsh type sounds like the EMS), sound effects, drones, etc... Is it possible to put together a collection of doepfer modules into a system that will serve my interests? I'm assuming that it is possible, I'm just not sure how to go about it. I've been looking at the basic system (w/out midi) yet I'm not sure if this will be the solution for me. I have no interest in a keyboard controller or midi, I really want something like the synthi a or VCS 3 (I've looked at the joystick module and was hoping that it might be a comparable solution to the VCS3 joystick). Is there a way to build the system that I'm looking for? Are there any other companies that might be more suitable in helping me find what I'm looking for(Analog Systems were very helpful with ideas utilizing their modules...I'm just looking at my options right now). And finally, I'd like to keep proce below $2000-2500 Thanks for any guidance you can give me. Michael Bleming
