Indeed, the VCO>VCA>VCF chain works without any problems as long as you 
don´t crank up the resonance too much.
I was working for a long time with this chain when my system was very 
small and I didn´t have a mixer module. The 2VCOs were patched to 
AudioIn 1 & 2 of the VCA and then sent to the filter.
