According to the 198 manual entry (page 3), with 'hold' set to off,
as soon as you release pressure on the ribbon, 'CV_pos' will drop to
zero, and 'Gate_pos' goes low too. If you are gating the EG with
this, you'll hear the drop in pitch unless you set the release to
zero (assuming _some_ sustain is dialled in), but in this case you
then get the annoying 'tock' as the VCA closes off abruptly.
Therefore to rid the 'tock' you need some release, so in order not to
hear the drop in pitch, you need the gate driving the EG to close
slightly ahead of the gate driving the VCO. (Well at least that's my
current understanding - I'm in Bristol for a meeting tomorrow, so I
may just swing by EMIS, the UK distributor, and buy a 198, then I can
experiment properly...)

Cheers,
Tim

P.S. And if that fails, I may just have a beer or two as Kevin
suggested - smart idea!
