maybe you have to look at the settings again.
look at the base note setting and the lowest/highest note
setting. try to change the settings to one octave up or down
and see what happens to the notes you play.
another reason could be an offset voltage, as
the mcv24 is capable to mix voltages before they
reach the output.

for example edit the settings for cv out channel 1.
somewhere at the end of the parameter list you can choose an
output channel for the gate signal, lets say channel 13.
every time when a pitch cv at channel 1 is generated,
then also a gate will be generated at channel 13.

i can't think straight forward actually.
