Re: shortwave radio module

hi,

Thanks for the feedback! Some of my comments...

<< Great idea! But how about having voltage control over the tuner?
>>

I agree! Its necessary. I suggested it also.

<< I don't this is too esoteric... :-) >>

Good. If Dieter thinks it is then perhaps we could still convince
him with enough preorders.

<< Why not also have a reel to reel tape player with voltage
controlled speed?? >>

Hmm, kinda like a modern Space Echo with longer Sound on Sound times
and expanded CV (instead of just for clocking the delay). This would
be lovely of course, but perhaps too big and too expensive. One
problem is that the read/write devices are hard to source used/NOS,
and almost impossible to find new. As far as space concerns a
microcassette version would work well in the A-100 format, and be
kind of lo-fi, but it requires 3 heads (IIRC, read, write, erase)
and microcassettes only have two! So perhaps it could be done, and
surely Dieter could find a way, but it'd have to be custom built and
therefore the module would be more money cause of assembly. The
alternative is using NOS/used parts and a big external case. And it
couldn't be done any cheaper than a Space Echo so that kills a big
portion of the market...lots of people would just buy a Space Echo
(without the expanded VC of course, it does have some).

Now an alternative, which admittedly isn't as cool, is for Doepfer
to release the BBD-based analog delay with CV as discussed earlier
PLUS an analogue pitch shifter (no digital because of lag
times)...with CV of course. This would do pretty much the same thing
but of course the timbre (sound) would be of a different character.
BBD delay times are also dependent on the number of stages and that
influences the purity or cleanliness of the final outputted signal.
That is why most BBDs are lo-fi...its usually a compromise between
longer delay times and signal to noise ratio.

<< For that matter what about a whole line of space-age-bachelor-pad-
hi-fi modules? >>

!!!

<< How about a voltage controlled line of lingerie? >>

hahaha. sure. and while we're at it, DOEPFER presents VC LEDERHOSEN!!
