I'd also strictly recommend the R2M over the A-198. Even the R2M has a
(virtual) non-quantized mode. Actually a 12 bit AD/DA conversion takes place
but this is very close to non-quantized (5V resp. 5 octaves are divided into
4096 steps, i.e. ~ 820 steps per octave or ~ 68 steps per semitone). This
can normally be treated as non-quantized.
The "disadvantage" of the 1/68 semitone quantization is more than
compensated by the additional functions of the R2M (especially Gate function
even in the hold mode and the different quantization modes) even if Midi is
not used.
Only if you need a Gate signal that is triggered by the pressure with
adjustable threshold the R2M cannot do this job. But this could be done with
an additional A-167 module.
