AW: [Doepfer_a100] Re: A-126 VCFS (Frequency Shifter) Problem

2005-11-14 by Dieter Doepfer

Ingo,

thank you for the translation (and sorry for my late response but I was very
bus last week even because of the A-100 live event in the Munic culture
center "GASTEIG"). This is indeed the explanation.

The most important part is the z-diode (5V1 or 5V6) between the control
voltage inputs of the CEM3382/PA382 and GND. This limits the control voltage
appearing the CV inputs to about +5V. Turning the manual frequency knob
fully CW and adding an external voltage could exceed +5V and the CEM3382
will stop working.

From the records of Roland Mayer (he was responsible for the A-126 and it's
modification) all A-126 manufactured ~ summer 1999 and later should be
already equipped with the additional parts of your translation (especially
the z-diode). Only for older A-126 (production before summer 1999) the
modifications should be missing. It is very easy to find out if the module
has been modified: at the bottom of the pc board several parts should be
soldered in addition.

I have a MS word document available that shows the bottom of the pc board
and all additionally parts. Please contact me directly (hardware@doepfer.de)
and I will send the document to anybody who is interested.

Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer

Additional information: As of now only A-100 PSU II will be manufactured
(toroid/ring core transformer, 1200mA). The old version of the A-100 PSU
(standard transformer, 650mA) will be no longer manufactured. We sell the
old version only while stocks last.
