Further investigation has made me interested in the A101-1/2. words like 
"smooth distortion" and "organic" really give me the shivers. The word 
"dirty" though, makes me think of mud and ugly distortion, but I suspect 
that isn´t the case with the wasp filter. And when you say that the A107 
sounds clean, it makes me think of "without personality/character" in other 
words; boring, but I suppose - again - that isn´t the case with this unit 
(107). But the price of A107 is also non-attractive and, less abstract and 
mind-misleading, than all these words...  So I might just start my 
doepfer-adventure with two cheaper ones like 101-2 and 124 waspfilter.
    If I had not read some personal reviews of the 101-2 (steiner lp-gate), 
I would have chosen the 101-1 version, but the praisings of the 101-2 - on 
this yahoogroup - certainly makes the situation quite complicated to me.

As you probably can see, I´m far from sure about what exactly I´m up to, but 
I´m also very willing to take risks and just follow your very appreciated 
advice...!
