hello adam-v,

heavy shielding is not necessary for patchcords, there is
no benefit, it is even the other way around.
most important are that the jacks fit safely into the sockets
and that the cables are light-weight. heavy shielding will lead to
a heavier patchcord , causing additional stress to the sockets,
and thats what you do not want.

so for the purpose of patching your modular, the new cables should
be equally good or even better than the old ones, even if they
look cheaper.
