Using the A190 Midi Interface to drive another synth...

Using the A190 Midi Interface to drive another synth...

2006-05-31 by slickie48

I am tring to control a Korg MS20 from a midi keyboard by using the A190. Its
working ok but I have a few questions.

if I play a note on the midi keyboard there is silence until I let my finger off and then
the note sounds. I figure this is some sort of reverse polarity or reverse trigger or
something but cant find it. I have tried a few midi keyboards and its the same so I
know the prob is with the A190.

Also sending these "program changes" into the A190 - what is the correct way to do
this??? do you just go into edit mode on the A190 and then select the program on
your midi keyboard and press enter and that it??? cause it doesnt seem to work and
there is no way to confirm its working. Any help would be apprecieted.

thanks

OK actually I got the gate problem fixed, and I got the program changes fixed (setting
on the midi keyboard was the problem - I just needed them to change parameters on
the A190) - so it is working pretty good new except the pitch CV is way off.

Now doepfers website gives this example on how to deal with it:
http://www.doepfer.de/faq/ms2010__faq.htm

but quite honestly it does not work at all....could someone explain the EXACT
connections from the 190 to the MS20 by which this could work.

Im going gate out of the 190 to MS20s trig in and then out of the 190 cv1 to VCO
1+2 CV in on the MS20 and adjusting the knobs he says and nothing happens.

the ms20 uses a negative trig , cant remember if the a190 can output
this but there is a very simple circuit to transform positive trigs
to negative ones ,, or gnd-trigs that is, on the other hand the note
cv can be used with V/oct , actually better tracking of lower
frequencies than using Hz/v .

also what do you want to achieve with sending program changes to the
A190 ?

This FAQ has been written by Christian Assall as he owns an MS20. He has
also written the software of the A-190 (and MCV4, MCV24 ...). As far as I
remember you have to adjust a control at the MS20 to obtain the correct
scale for the 1V/octave pitch sent by the A-190. If you still have problems
you may contact him directly (he does not track the messages of this group):
software@doepfer.de.

Best wishes
