Hey, thanks much, Laryn! I'm flattered. :)

If anyone's curious, the site's

www.vogelscheiss.com

and my Doepfer audio page is here:

http://www.vogelscheiss.com/modular_mp3s.htm,

while my general mp3s are here:

http://www.vogelscheiss.com/main_mp3.htm

power supply questions

2006-10-24 by neil jendon

Hi,

1. Anyone know the manufacturer and parts numbers for
Doepfer/Analogue Solutions power connectors? I've got
some circuits I'd like to board up and incorporate in
my puny rack.

2. I noticed in the schematics I've seen for mod.
synth power supplies, there isn't a lot of capacitance
after the regulators (I haven't seen a schematic for
any Doepfer PS's, mind you.) Is there any possible
advantage for "stiffening" the power supply with an
additional pair of e-lytics closer to the modules? Any
danger?

If you mean the female connectors of the bus cables: these connectors are
called "IDC connectors" (female sockets for flat cable) and are available
from many manufacturers and suppliers. E.g. from Mouser (order no 164-9006
for the 10 pin and 164-9008 for the 16 pin version).

The large capacitors have to be located before the voltage regulators, not
behind ! At the outputs of the regulators only small capacitors are required
as the regulation ("stiffening") is carried out by the voltage regulators
(integrated circuits) but not by the large capacitors.

jumper pins on A-136 waveshaper

what are they?

There are two unconnected pins on the PCB. What's up
with that?

Hi Neil,

That sounds like jumper 'JP2' at the top edge of the board: when the
little jumper is present, it shorts out capacitor C1, which allows the
module to process low-frequency, control-type voltages; when not there
the module will only work with higher-frequency, audio-type of signals.
I would normally expect it to be there unless the user has a specific
reason for wanting to take the DC level out of the signal input.

Hope that helps.

Tim

It's a jumper for AC/DC coupling of the input. Removed -> AC (mainly for
audio processing), set -> DC (mainly for CV proccessing).
