Question concerning the ADSR speed

Question concerning the ADSR speed

2007-02-09 by tonoknot

Hi to all mailinglist members.

Am I missing something or the speed of software ADSR signal coming from Doepfer
MCV24 cannot be compared to the ultrafast signal from a-140 ADSR module? Im in love
with that beautiful click it can produce but I cannot get the same results with MCV24
ADSR.
Is that normal?

Thank you,
Tonko

Thats normal. The software envelopes are not intenden as a replacement
for the A-140. As far as I remember (Dieter or Chris will jump in here)
the MCV24 was developped at a time, where similar interfaces (Harms,
EES, Kenton) had soft envelopes. So Doepfer didn't want to stand back.
But in fact these envelopes are included in an technical environment
(microcontroller, DA-converter) which are not intended to realise
realtime envents with change rates as required in - lets say - a
upperclass virtual synth.

These envelopes are "nice to have"-addons, but not something you would
call the "center competence" of the interface.
