Has anybody tried making/using ground-lifted patches, just a single element tip cable with 
no grounding, like the banana cables in a Serge?  Wondering if those would work?

This will work as long as the patch is within the same system as all modules
are grounded via the power supply/bus.
But if you patch between different systems the GND pins of the connectors
have to be connected too.
