A119 External input question.

A119 External input question.

2007-08-14 by vcovcfvca

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can answer the following question:

Can the A119 be fed with a DC source into its audio input.
Specifically, I'm wondering if you can feed an envelope signal in and
then use the built-in comparator to generate a gate delay by
manipulating the threshold. If so I would like to use it (for example)
to derive a gate signal half way through an envelope attack stage to
gate another envelope. Just wondering, as the module would then be
multifunctional for me (meaning I can possibley wait on purchasing
dedicated camparator modules and extra rack space).

Thanks for your help.
Adam (yes another Adam).

Thanks for the reponse Deiter! I asked because I don't have the
module yet, so couldn't test. I suspected that it would be AC coupled
(makes sense for its intended purpose). I'm basically weighing up
module options at the moment for future purchases to add to my synth.
I'll probably get the comparator at some stage as well.
Thanks again.

No. The A-119 has a AC coupled input. You have to short the capacitors C3
and C4 (the two large 100u types) to process DC signals with the input
amplifier.

Should be no problem after the C3/C4 mod. But I haven't tried it.

But we have the comparator module A-167 that can do this job without
modification.

Best wishes
