138c vs Serge 3P

138c vs Serge 3P

2007-08-30 by ErnstKarel

Hi there --

Does anyone have experience with both of these (Doepfer 138c
polarizing mixer and Bananalogue Serge 3P), and can comment on the
pros & cons of each?

If I'm understanding the descriptions properly, the input 1 knob on
the Doepfer acts the same as the Output knob on the 3P, as
positive/negative voltage source offset. So there are three extra
inputs on both, plus voltage offset. Is that correct? Or on Doepfer
do you get double the manual offset, with input 1 plus output knobs?
Are there any other differences between them?

(I know there was a discussion earlier about accuracy of the 138c;
that doesn't concern me.)

Thanks in advance,
Ernst

I don't have experience with 3P, but the A-138c seems to have
advantages:
- There are four channels available, if offset is not needed.
- Setting offset to (near) zero is easy by inserting a plug to input
1.
- There is a master level control.
- It is cheaper.
