maq 16 cv gate problem

maq 16 cv gate problem

2008-02-11 by floppy

hello group

i realized that my maq 16 has a detuned cv output, while midi part is in
perfect tune.
when i connect a synth with cv / gate and play a middle c on the maq
i tune the synth to c
now i play a higher c on the maq and its not in tune anymore (slightly
lower then it should be)
when i play a lower note then the middle c it gets out of tune in the
other direction (higher then it should be)
i tested it with 2 different synths with this result, and i also tested
the synths itself with their own keyboards,
there it works just fine.
could this be a calibration problem of the maq16 ?

The calibration of the CV outputs is described in the MAQ16/3 manual on page
31 (appendix E).

as the problem occurs with 2 different synthesizers in the same way, i
really think that my maq is detuned.
but before i open it for calibration i will test it with my new a100
system just to be sure its the maqs fault.
as i understand the manual there is no danger in doing this procedure ?
im somewhat affraid to open the device and fiddle with a screwdriver
while its running ...

i just fixed the problem by calibrating the maq, this is a very nice
procedure.
i couldnt get the 36 (lowest setting of the knob) to G#3, it was just
not possible to reach
by the trim pot of the maq and the tune fader of the synth.
so i set 36 to A#2.

That's because of the DC offset of the CV outputs (see page 7 of the user's
manual). The MAQ16/3 has been developed more than 10 years ago and it was a
problem to find an affordable triple DA converter at this time. For new
designs such DC offsets are avoided.
