hi, looking at the monster base page, it appears the handle is affixed to to the lid. is this correct? i believe the handle should be part of the body of the case, not the lid. i would rather the lid hit the floor than the base, if something (other than the handle) were to come loose or be poorly attached. apologies if this question has previously come up.

Yes, so far the handle is on the top cover. It would be possible to change the handle to the rear side but in this case you will have two (ugly ?) rubber feet at the front. Though I don't like that it's also possible to have the mains inlet and switch as a 8HP module inside the case (as for the G6 suitcase version 1). Best wishes Dieter Doepfer

Hi, having access to the MonsterBase prototype I'd recommend to 2008/4/2, hardware@doepfer.de <hardware@doepfer.de>: >have the mains inlet and switch as a 8HP module inside the case >(as for theG6 suitcase version 1). Already I find it (a little) annoying to climb behind the case (and the suitcase which rides on top) to plug the unit in or to switch it off or on... (I'll solve this by connecting the whole setup to _one_ main on/off switch - but would prefer it otherwise) Additionally: install your front row modules first! - then the upper row...I spent quite some time fixing and un-screwing my modules until everything was set ;o) - and be aware that the cables of some older modules 'just' are long enough... Apart from that: this thing is great! I love it! It is very playable/manageable and even looks great! Five-star-recommendation! (Now, what will I put into the case-top; a keyboard - as suggested...or rather a holder for patch-cables...) Best wishes, chris [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

No no no please! All of that space is desperately needed for modules -- it would be a total waste of space to use 8HP for the mains. It does seem problematic to have the carrying handle affixed to the lid -- I've had the lid accidentally fall off of my suitcase before because it wasn't properly latched, and I wouldn't have wanted to have been carrying it by the lid at the time.... thanks, Ernst

I would not like to sacrifice 8HP for front panel mains inlet and power switch. I would propably also prefer the handle at the lid and just be careful. Jari Jokinen

in keeping the handle on the lid, would there be any benefit in adding a second
latch/side (4 latches total)? im thinking it would help secure the lid on the
horizontal axis and offer a backup mechanism in case the primary (vertical)
latch was not secured properly/failed while being carried.

I feel I have to chime in on this one. I own 3 of the portable cases all of which have the 8HP panel power module. I chose the internal PC panel because the external one on the portables was in the completely wrong place for the way I play them, on a slanted table or on their backs. The external mounted IEC connector and power strip restricts where and how the unit is placed in a studio, It forces the box to be a few inches away from anything on the face it is mounted (for the power cable) not to mention the access needed to reach the switch to turn it on of off. These cases will add about 336HP to any system it is used with - for me giving up 8HP for the ease of access and the added robustness make up for it's lost panel space. The exposed IEC and power switch in the other option are easier to damage - these are meant to be portable cases after all. In fact a added feature would be to add a female IEC socket to the panel (it is big enough) and then it could also switch the power for whatever is stacked onto it. The power switch might need to be beefed up a little to handle the extra current draw though. -James

Where exactly is the mains inlet and power switch located in Monster Base? Surely it can lay on a table comfortably? I already thought of putting A-155, A-154, a joystick and Plan B Milton Venti sequencer (if it turns out to be good) to the lower row of the Monster Base. All 168HP would be needed for that... > Where exactly is the mains inlet and power switch located in Monster > Base? Surely it can lay on a table comfortably? For the prototypes they were centered at the rear panel. But they could be positioned elsewhere. We only have to decide where. Upon request we are able to manufacture all suitcases, monster cases and monster bases with the mains inlet at any position as a special order (e.g. we already manufactured G6 suitcases with the mains inlet at the right/left side). The delivery time will be about 4-6 weeks as we do not have these cases in stock. Even the price will be slightly higher as the internal wiring has to be made manually (as the prefabricated standard wire harnesses cannot be used). > I already thought of putting A-155, A-154, a joystick and Plan B > Milton Venti sequencer (if it turns out to be good) to the lower row > of the Monster Base. All 168HP would be needed for that... Pay attention that the useable depth for the front row is 70 mm only (please refer to my message from March 28, 2008)! But as usual: other dimensions upon request ... Best wishes Dieter Doepfer
