Actually, that's very good to know, since I'm building a modcan/cynthia/serge system. I very much like the metalbox stuff.

RE: [Doepfer_a100] Serge compatability ?

2008-05-14 by Anthony Rolando

Bakis was sayin that you need alot of banana to mini-jack panels. I disagree with this. I think a more economical solution (with regards to both space and money) would be to have a single 4hp system gnd panel. This module would connect to the doepfer powerbus and bring system GND to the panel via a banana socket. Have a system GND socket added to the front panel of your serge system (very simple modification) and connect the two via a single banana cable. GND is now shared.

This method saves precious HP, allows you to use FEWER cables to patch between systems, and allow you to use Banana to mini-jack cables. These would have only the TIP of the mini-jack connected to the single element on the banana jack.

yes, indeed that is a way to interface too.
but, i prefer converter panels.

RE: [Doepfer_a100] Serge compatability ?

2008-05-14 by Bakis Sirros

btw, the serge psu has a black banana ground input on
the back of it, so you do not need to make a ground
banana socket in the serge modular at all. that's how
you could ground the Serge psu to other serge psu's,
or to other modular makers psu's.

RE: [Doepfer_a100] Serge compatability ?

2008-05-14 by Anthony Rolando

So all you would need is a 4HP panel in the Doepfer case the took system gnd to a black banana socket. This saves alot of money, cables and space Bakis, why would you prefer to do it with banana to mini panels?

Additionally, on complex patches, tracing cables would be easier.

RE: [Doepfer_a100] Serge compatability ?

2008-05-14 by Bakis Sirros

cause it seems a real nightmare to me, trying to short
out the banana to banana, minijack to banana and
minijack to minijack cables out of a cablemesh of
hundreds of patchcords (really!).
as my set-up is now, i only have to short out the
banana's from the minijack cables and that is much
easier...
