A-110 not putting out a sine wave?

A-110 not putting out a sine wave?

2008-07-28 by techmaster242

I just got my A-190 and was able to play my A-110 into my monitoring
setup finally. Saw, square, and triangle work fine, but it doesn't
seem to be playing a sine wave at all. I've noticed that if I have
the pulse width knob too far to the left or right, the square wave and
I think it was the triangle wave, will cut out, but that's not the
case with the sine, it doesn't put out sound no matter what I do with
the knobs. Anything else I can try? Or did I get a defective module?

The sawtooth, triangle and sine outputs have to work independent of the
pulsewidth setting. If the pulsewidth affects the triangle or the sine
output has no output the module is defective. Before you send it back for
repair to your dealer please check if the internal connection between the
two boards is OK (i.e. if the 10 pin ribbon connector is firmly plugged on
the pin header of the small output board).

Best wishes

I played with it again, and you're right, the PW only affects the
square. But sine is definitely not putting anything out. I checked
the cable and connections are good. The only thing is, on the
connector board, it's a plug-in connection, but on the other end, the
ribbon is broken up into individual wires, that are soldered to random
points on the board. Is it possible that maybe one of the wires is
soldered to the wrong spot? Maybe I could take a picture of that
board and where everything is, and one of your techs could take a look
and make sure the placement is okay? If it's a minor issue like that,
I could fix it myself. Otherwise, I talked to Shawn Cleary at
Analogue Haven, and he said the turnaround time for repairs is about
2-3 months. Eek!

Hi

if you are able to read schematics and aprts layouts:
http://www.doepfer.de/a110_tec.htm will show the right spots.

Okay, oddest thing ever. I didn't have the right cabling, so I tested
it with a stereo 3.5mm cable I have. And as you know, the first 3
waves work but not the sine. I ordered 100 neutrik 3.5mm mono plugs
and 100ft of mogami wire. Tip: the small instrument wire from mogami
is NOT compatible with the neutrik NYS-226 connectors. The mogami
wire is 5mm thick and the neutriks are made for 4mm. Anyways I rigged
up some of my unusable mogami cable with a neutrik connector. It
wasn't pretty, I promise...but it worked for a quick test. And, with
the proper mono cable, it worked on all 4 waves!

Why is this? I have no clue why 3 out of 4 wave jacks would work but
not the 4th, with the same wire... VERY weird indeed. But, all is
good, now I just have to sort out this wiring problem. :(

You can take a picture But I don't think that the module is wrongly wired as
the A-110 are 100% tested in our company by Matthias. Send the pic directly
to Matthias Marass who is responsible in our company for the A-110. His
email address is keyboards(at)doepfer(dot)de.
