not with the a166. the a166 inverters are digital, they just flip
from zero to +10 volts and vise versa, they are no real anlog
inverters for variable voltages. you have to use the a175.
maybe it is a good idea to split the voltage from the binary
zone into the positive and negative parts, the a172 max/min
is perfect for that task. then the negative part can be inverted,
quantized and inverted again with the a175 dual inverter.

Quantizer positive problem...

2008-08-14 by mark francombe

Hi list..

I was trying somthing last night and discovered that the quantizer only
quantizes positive volts, checked in manual, and there its was.. damn.

HERE WHAT I WAS DOING:

I Love the Blacet Binary Zone (actually programmed some vst versions of this
before I knew a hardware version existed) as a very weird sequencer, put its
output thru a A156 quantiser and i get great random sequences, in tune!!!
But I have 2 questions, one musical and one technical.

Question #1 Musical: I also have the Blacet Miniwave, where bank 15 is also
a quantizer. When I have the Binary Zone feeding Both the MW AND the A156
Doepfer, and then on to 2 VCO´s, I want that I should get the same notes out
of both, IE, both quantize the same, but the Blacet has far more types of
scale, and I cant seem to find the one that matches the Doepfer... all this
talk of Dorian Mode and Lydian Mode, anyone wold think I was a real
musician!!

Question #2 Technical: Second experiment was to feed the Binary Zone to both
quantizers on the A156 (I HAVE moved the jumper so they are both the same),
now heres the thing, In the Binary Zone you can turn the knob to negative
that is the musical steps will go DOWN, but this aint working thru the A156.
Now this is a shame cos my plan was this. On the Binary Zone there is a
negative output (mirrors the positive) its a great effect to feed a VCO to
each, when one goes down the other goes up.. its very cool, but they do NOT
make correct musical sense against each other. So was hoping to fix this by
feeding them thru the quant first, now this ain't happening so... what can I
do?

Please allow me to oversimplify. If you have the A-156, you must
acquire the A-129-3 to go along with it. Amen.

yes, if 10 volts of quantization are enough.
since the blacet binary zone can output from
-10 to +10 volts you will not be able to
use the maximum range available if you use the a129/3.
but ok, i think that a range of 10 octaves should be
enough already, so the a129/3 is also an option ;-)
