warming up another old idea

warming up another old idea

2008-11-01 by achtung_999

Hello,

In my list of wishes I have one old wish that is still there, that was
already a poll once:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Doepfer_a100/surveys?id=12050590

"the Tendency mask generator at Sonology is a device which you feed an upper
limit and a lower limit as cv inputs [in a doepfer system it could be an
extension of the a172 max/min]. There's also a clock which can either be
internal or an external pulse. The device gives out random values between
the upper and lower limits at the clock rate."

I would think as a Doepfer module it could be sort of a 'pimped S&H'.
One input for the upper limit CV, one input for the lower limit CV, and a
clock input.
Output give a random value between the upper and lower limit CV at the time
of the clock trigger.

I guess that this is all possible with a combination of several S&H modules
and A172's. (I unfortunately only have one)
But wouldn't it be nice to have as a standalone unit? I guess it would fit
in a 4HP unit.

Another extra option that would be nice, would be an internal clock that
could go at extremely high rates.
But this would of course make the module bigger in size and more expensive.

 Thanks for your attention,

Ernst

Maybe to explain the idea a bit differently:
We could also think of it like a twisted version of the A167 analog
comparator.
With one big difference that the output is a random value between the low
and high value.
(and of course that it needs to be triggered).
