Doepfer A-101-2 mods?

Doepfer A-101-2 mods?

2009-01-24 by intellijel

I heard that a criticism of the Doepfer A-101-2 module is that it uses
the wrong the Vactrols (when compared to the Buchla).

Has anyone ever modded the module to get more desirable results?

While we are on the topic of mods, is there somewhere that Doepfer
mods are collected and documented?

the A101-2 is one of my favourite filters.
it is not initally impressive, but, in time, i have come to really value its sound shaping abilities (and the fact that it does not have a really 'pronounced' character). the vactrols it uses are fine also for wobbly sounds.
i like it a lot!

I gotta agree - not only that it sems hopeless at buchla emulation but that it is a fine, unique filter in its own right, I heard some organic flute-like tones that I've never heard from a synth before

I'd love to know how it compares with the A-101-1 Steiner filter - does that have a similar quality? - Bakis?

the a101/2 has a different sound than the buchla lowpass gate,
but that doesn't mean that the a101/2 is not good.
it doesn't have that "ringing" decay when it is
triggered with short pulses, so it cannot create those
subotnik-like plings and plongs, but nevertheless
it is one of my favorite audio vca's. i find it a bit
strange that some users blame the a101/2 for not sounding
like a buchla. it isn't a buchla and it doesn't want to
be a buchla. it is a doepfer with its very own features and
therefore has its own sound.

there should be some places, but i'm not sure if the
data is still online anywhere. i believe that
analogue haven had a page for user modifications.

There are a few dotted over the place: here is the Analogue Haven
stuff:

http://www.analoguehaven.com/usercomm/diy/

(I don't know if it is reachable through from links at their site,
but I've had that link on my site for some time, and it still
works!). I also have a few mods at my site:

www.timstinchcombe.co.uk/synth/synth_main.html

Most of the others that I know of a more or less 'one offs', rather
than collections of mods, and are probably to be found by searching
the archives of this forum. In fact now that I think of it, I'm sure
I have a list somewhere - if I can find it I will think about putting
a dedicated page of links at my site.

Some mods are also mentioned on the A-100 DIY page (www.doepfer.com >
