DIY Cables

DIY Cables

2009-01-29 by Giles

Hi guys,

I'm going to build some patch cables rather then buy them. Does anyone have
recommendations on what type works best. I'm going to order online and won't be able to
actually look at the cable ahead of time to make sure its not too thick.

I'm planning on building some regular 1/8", and some 1/8" to 1/4".

Thanks in advance.

Giles

I use this for my cables and have had no problems with it: Shielded
cable
<http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=WB1500&CATID=22&keywords=&S\
PECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=\
&priceMax=&SUBCATID=543>

It's about 3mm in diameter and is really flexible. The small diameter
makes for a sloppy fit in the strain relief of the plugs but I also fit
a small length of heatshrink at each end for colour coding and extra
strain relief.

Cheers,
Adam-V
