Hi list,

After all this talk of which power inlet is good/bad etc., I decided to 
take a few snaps of the one in the second-hand case I had to replace, 
and made a page for it at my website:

Also there is the part no. of a suggested replacement, which might be 
of some use (or at least save someone else spending hours and hours 
looking for a replacement which is _just_ the right size). If there is 
anything glaringly wrong there, I'd appreciate being informed!

I'd be surprised if there were many left now that haven't failed, but 
if it happens to you, an even cheaper way around it is to crack the 
metal can, cut/lever away the plastic/goo and remains of the filter, 
until all that's left are the metal connectors, then simply resolder 
the mains wires to these terminals. This means no expense, no 
sourcing of parts, and no more than 2 hours work.

Id just like to add weight to Sean's comments, as thats how ive fixed a couple of old G6s.

It was some time ago, and i cant remember the exact details, but i remember it being messy rather than that intellectually 
difficult.

As the time, i think i sourced the originals, but i wasnt keen on paying the (now) extended price for them!

You could always use the left over switch as a Ground Lift switch.  
Might as well put it to use.

Please don't do that! Due to electrical safety reasons this is not allowed
because the housing is no longer earthed in this case ! If one of the mains
leading cables becomes loose and touches the case there is serious danger to
life. This is why the case has to be always to be connected to earth. I know
that this a popular procedure but I'd strictly disadvise.
