Power Supplies for the DIY Kits in the USA

Power Supplies for the DIY Kits in the USA

2009-02-01 by HenfieldJ@aol.com

I am reading various forums (including this one) where people are complaining that they are having problems with the power supplies sold with both Doepfer DIY kits in the USA.? The issue with the DIY Kit #2 (hum) has been chronicled on this forum, and I have read elsewhere that the power supply supplied with the DIY Kit #1 is underpowered (only 1100 mA, should be 2.5 A).? What recourse does Doepfer have to ensure that their (exclusive) US distributor sources the correct power supplies?? These issues are forcing me to resource the power supply that I want to put into a DIY case that I am making, and forcing me to re-think my decision to use the Eurorack format when it appears that the largest manufacturer of this equipment ignores potential issues with power supplies issued with their equipment.? Dieter, has anyone checked to see if the problem chronicled on this forum with the DIY Kit #2 is with the power supply that is provided in the USA?? From what I have read here, this problem only exists with kits sold in the USA.? Can you also find out about the power supply that is provided with the DIY Kit #1?

Sorry for the rant, thank you for any light that can be shed on this issue,

Henfield.............................................

To be fair, I'm running about 3 rows of modules from the 1100mA
supply. But I've also burned one out when running a lot of modules.
I'll probably get the 2500mA supply if and whenever this one burns out.

Hi,

I have been running the Kit 1 with this PSU. I have 3 rows running
fine with another row to fill http://www.digitrax.com/prd_ps_ps315.php

I'll contact Shawn Cleary from Analogue Haven to get an answer. Our problem
is, that we cannot get transformers or power supplies with 115 V mains
voltage and US mains connectors here in Germany (or only at very high
prices). This is why these parts are usually added by the representatives.

I got an answer from Shawn Cleary from Analogue Haven concerning the
transformers and power supplies for A-100 DIY#1 and #2.

So far they found only a suitable transformer with 1100mA for A-100DIY#1.
That's why the A-100DIY#1 in USA were delivered with an 1100mA transformer
only. But we browsed throug some online shops and found a transformer with
4000mA (4A) which is more than sufficient for the A-100DIY#1 (Jameco
EHU160400E7940 16VAC/4000mA). Shawn will order these new transformers asap
and deliver the A-100DIY#1 with the 4000mA transformers.

For the A-100DIY#2 it may have happened that Analogue Haven delivered
unstabilized/unregulated supplies by mistake. Please look at the PSU you
obtained together with the A-100DIY#2. If they are stabilized/regulated it
will be mentioned on the case. Even here we found a suitable 12V
stabilized/regulated supply (Jameco DDU120050F0981 12V/500mA).

Shawn told me that they will change to these new supplies immediately once
they receive stock from Jameco.

If you have question please contact Shawn directly: shawn@analoguehaven.com

Best wishes

Dieter,

Thank you for looking into the USA power supply matter and getting
some resolution! Your swift response to this issue helps renew my
faith in Doepfer, and hopefully will solve the issues that have been
reported in various forums with both DIY kits.

Thank you again,

Henfield..................
