> so......any comments???I BELIEVE THAT THE SENSOR > KEYBOARD MUST BE WITH METALPLATES!!!! i'm w you bakis..prefer touchplate! more condusive to experimentation than a reg keyboard. particularly when you can get a reg keyboard for $79. after all, isn't that the reason anyone anyone bothers w a modular at all? to go beyond the norm? why the sudden interest in ditching something because it may require learning a new technique to play it well?! disappointed, duff

hi list, some new info from dieter: "BAKIS:also, any news about the ribbon controller??when it will be released?? DIETER:The A-198 is finished but we are waiting for the case prototype of our case manufacturer. As soon as we receive the first case and everything is OK the A-198 will go into production. I hope that the A-198 will be available in September or October too. Last week Florian Schneider visited us to discuss details of the A-198. He would like to have a MIDI version of the A-198 so that MIDI equipment could be controlled by the ribbon/Trautonium controller too. So we think about a MIDI interface for the A-198. The A-192 could not be used as a much higher resolution for the pitch is necessary. By the way: Kraftwerk will play in September in Paris but both concerts are already sold out. Florian will play an A-198 if it is available in time. BAKIS:and,of course, what interests me,what about the sensor keyboard, any news?? DIETER:This is still our "problem child" as we have so many completely contradictory suggestions from the customers. Whatever version we will produce many customers will be dissatisfied as their suggestions are not realized. We never had this situation before. We will have to lay down "our" version of the keyboard well knowing that many customers will complain. In the meantime many customers suggested to use a standard keyboard (with moving keys) instead of the touch sensors as this would be much cheaper and easier to use. And I have to agree partially: it is much easier to play a melody on a standard keyboard than on the touch keyboard as you have no mechanical reference (like the higher black keys or the rims of a pressed key) on the touch keyboard. A lot of "mistakes" occur if you play not very exactly. E.g. when you touch the neighbouring touch plate unintentionally a wrong tone may appear. With a normal keyboard this happens not that easy because you have to move the key. BAKIS:also, about the space mouse controller...will you release it??? DIETER:No. The space mouse controller will not be released as the data transfer rate is too small for useful musical applications. The manufacturer of the space mouse tried to increase the data rate but they had no success. For graphic computer applications the data rate is OK but not for musical control applications. Best wishes Dieter Doepfer Doepfer Musikelektronik GmbH http://www.doepfer.de email: hardware@doepfer.de " so......any comments???I BELIEVE THAT THE SENSOR KEYBOARD MUST BE WITH METALPLATES!!!!WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT A STANDARD KEYBOARD,WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OUT THERE??????????I REALLY HOPE THAT THIS METAL PLATES SENSOR KEYBOARD WILL BE RELEASED AND NOT SOME DULL ORDINARY STANDARD KEYBOARD...........I HOPE YOU AGREE WITH ME ON THIS...AFTER ALL THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ALTERNATIVE CONTROLLER,RIGHT??????o.k.,it's my opinion... bakis. ===== synthfreak(parallel worlds) athens-greece [Doepfer_a100] group owner-moderator __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
