FWIW, the radio / shortwave reciever have a long history in electronic music. 
even now, i incorporate an old shortwave reciever into my synth stuff and 
there are a couple of neat websites with info on vlf radio which has 
interesting possibilities as an audio source. one even includes a simple  
schematic for a unit that could easily be used with a doepfer or other synth.
