new doepfer module!(A109 VC SIGNAL PROCESSOR)

new doepfer module!(A109 VC SIGNAL PROCESSOR)

2002-08-08 by bakis Sirros

hi list,
i don't know if anyone has noticed it, but a new
module will be available from october.
it is a combined 24db lowpass filter/VCA/panning vca.
it is a limited edition because of the curtis chip
used.
go to the doepfer site if you want more info.
bakis.

hi bakis, how limited? more or less than a 100 units? this chip was
used in the Prophet VS ( one of my favorite poly's along with the
Matrix 12 and Elka Synthex). here is the url for the .pdf doc for the
chip,

http://www.synthtech.com/cem/c3378pdf.pdf

bakis could you interest mr. doepfer in recreating the matrix 12
filter in the doepfer A100 format. i believe the chips are still
available. someone from sweden produced a limited editon of 12 a few
years back for the A100, i missed out on the last one and have been
jonesing for one since. here is the url for the filter,

http://www.analogue.org/network/matrix12.htm

i would interested in buying the new A109 to put it through its
paces. but my heart really lies with the Matrix 12 multimode filter,
if ddoepfer were to produce it i would buy 4 of them right away.
maybe we should have a poll to see if group members are interested in
such a filter.let's keep our fingers crossed.

Not only this one, nearly every hybrid synthesizer in the middle and late
eighties (E.g. Oberheim M-Series, several 6-Voice-Sequential Ensoniq (E)SQ
Series, all Akai Synths (not the samplers)) used one of those chips. Some
were with some without panning.

Yes they are.

Hmm, nice Idea.

Hmm, I would prefer a non CEM based Filter, since Doepfer has already three
types and the CEM-Filters sound quite similar.

What about the CA3080 based Multimodefilters like in the old eightvoice or
Formant?

hi florian,

i agree with you about the 3 cem filters is enough, but none of them
offer the available poles, various modes and combinations thereof. i
like Oberheim's application and use in the Matrix 12. i would love to
have such a filter for sound shaping. remember, there is no ext.
audio in for the Matrix 12 or Expander, someone had a audio in kit
for the expander, but the mod and info is nowhere to be found. it
would be nice if doepfer added new twists to that design like having
all the poles and modes available on the pcb so you can have an
expander module with all the outputs available at once. or a vc input
to scan through all the outs and vc of the resonance as well.

i love the sound of the Sem filter and i think this would be a great
addition to the A100. maybe there should be a poll on this one. i
have never heard or used the Formant and would like to hear it. do
you have any examples or mp3's of the formant? could you please give
us a description?
