Subharmonic generator question

Subharmonic generator question

2011-03-17 by Vesa Vehvilainen

Hello all! New member here.
I'm planning my first A-100 set...
And wondering about the A-113 subharmonic generator. Does it work with any other kind of audio input, than a rectangle wave? Does it create an output with other kinds of input? Can I sing into it and create sawtooth subharmonics of my voice?

Cheers
Vesa

You need a clean rectangle to control the A-113. It may work if you amplify
the microphone signal until it distorts a bit and if you sing or whistle
very "clean" without excessive envelope (like short "attack" and "release",
full "sustain" of an ADSR). But during the "attack" and "release" state
artifacts may occur. We are still working on a pitch-to-CV/Midi/USB
converter module that could be used for this application (A-195-1). But I
have no idea when it will be available. The mentioned attack and release
states as well and noisy or dirty sounds are still are making problems (e.g.
plucking of a string) because there is no clean pitch available.

Best wishes
