Dark Time vs Oberkorn M3

Dark Time vs Oberkorn M3

2011-04-17 by malcolm

Hello All,

I'm new to hardware sequencing and am trying to decide between buying the Doepfer Dark Time and the Oberkorn M3 a my first hardware sequencer!

What I'm looking for...

 - sequence midi and cv enabled hardware synths and maybe soft synths

 - easy integration with Logic as the 'master' clock

 - maximum tweakability and experimental potential

 - relatively east to understand - although I'm not afraid of a learning curve

I do not currently own a CV-MIDI converter

Any advice or opinions are much appreciated!

Best,
Malcolm, NYC

if you have the money look into the sequentix cirklon. it has midi,cv,din
and can be used as a midi/cv converter.

AW: [Doepfer_a100] Dark Time vs Oberkorn M3

Did you by any chance mean the Oberkorn v3? If so, the Oberkorn and the Dark
Time are not really comparable. A better match would be the Doepfer MAQ
16/3.

There is a smaller sequencer from Analogue Solutions called the Station Q
that's closer to the DT. Since it is only 8 steps and lacks MIDI this will
be not as good a fit for your needs as the Dark Time.

The DT should be easy to integrate with Logic. It is also pretty
straightforward: Gate and CV output, either 2x8 or 1x16 steps, forward,
backward and random.

As for experimental potential I don't know. Define experimental. I would
think that the Oberkorn or the MAQ are better bets here (or the A 155 / 154
combo if you plan on going modular).

Dark Time will do MIDI ( & CVs) out/in
Oberkorn M3 does not send out MIDI just CVs - though it responds to a MIDI clock in
both are wonderful and uniquely different — ditto MAQ 16/3
I suggest buy all three! :D
