Slow Random

Slow Random

2014-10-28 by David Kellett

Hi,

I need to have slow changing random voltages. I have the A 118 but the rate of change is very fast. I would like something that moves very much slower. I'm thinking of a VCLFO who's rate is changed by a random source - but this will still have an abruptness that I would rather not have.

Any ideas?

Generally you take the random output of the noise module and patch it into the smp-In of the A148

http://www.doepfer.de/a148.htm

Then you plug an LFO into the Trig-in and use the lfo to control the rate of change. Each pulse from an lfo triggers a new sample, so you can get the S&H out to change very slowly.

Sometimes I will also take the output of that and put it through a lag generator to have some portamento between the notes.

Hopefully that is what you're looking for.

Scott

I have literally just bought an A-149-1 for this reason, it's brilliant!

I'll experiment with that.

Thanks,

A slew limiter seems like the best way to obtain what you're after.
I assume you read the manual. I hope you're not offended by the following questions:
did you turn the rate knob on the A118 totally to the right? > this slows the rate down
And played around with the colour-knobs? Turning the 'red' knob down reduces big chances of the voltage.

On my A118 with rate at the lowest setting the pos beg lights change still visa let fast and sound fast. Slew limiter makes little dif at that rate

Re: [Doepfer_a100] Slow Random

As previously suggested, I recommend using a S&H module and an LFO or other programmed trigger source to control the rate of change if the A118 isn't performing as you need it to. The Red and Blue controls can offset and limit the range of available voltages if necessary.

I can't currently report how my A-118 performs. Can't get in my studio.
