2 dark energies (tuning)

2 dark energies (tuning)

2015-01-04 by racc00nb0y@yahoo.com

Hi everyone

I have a Dark Energy 1 and I'm about to order a Dark Energy 2 as a second osc. Once they are hooked up together (internally) Will I have to tune each oscillator seperately? Or is there a way to set it up so that my DE1 is the master tune and the DE2 tuning pot can be used to detune.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I don't have access to the schematics of the DE's, but it should be
possible basically.

You have to pick the voltage from the slider contact of the tuning
potentiometer of DE1 and feed it to an additional socket on the DE1

In the DE2 you have to add a socket and a resistor. The resistor is a
duplicate of the existing resistor that is connected already to the
existing tune potentiometer (there is a tune range Jumper too, which may
hav to be obeyed). The socket feeds this additional resistor.

Now you have to connect the two sockets with an patch cable. DE1 will be
the master tune. On DE2 you still can adjust the offset tuning.

To get an idea of it, have a look at the schematic of the A-110
http://www.doepfer.de/a110_s.gif
On the left you find the existing tune-potentiometer (P1). R5 (right to
it) is the existing resistor.
The additional socket and resistor will look like BU2 and R6 (don't obey
the given values and the connection to "int.cv" !).

For the exact values of the resistors and for the places on the pcb
access to the schematics would be required. (Dieter?)

Regards
Florian

Interesting.

Thanks for the advice. A little advanced for the at the moment, but will keep it in mind for the future.

I'm still waiting to try and add osc out to my DE1.

Will sit down with someone who knows electronics at some point and figure it out. Even just finding room for a jack on the back will be a challenge. I like things neat.

Thanks for the help :D

On the front, next to the glide?

( I've got the idea to put a whole bunch of stuff on the front,
outs , ins, attenuator, simple lag )

Might I suggest you look into a Moogerfooger CP-251 processor? It's got all kinds of goodies in it - lag processor, 2 attenuators, mixer, 4 way multiple, LFO, white noise and sample and hold. Totally compatible with the Dark Energies and very reasonably priced. I've got two of them, along with DE's I and II among other things. Works great and will save you having to carve into things.

If you are familiar with electronics that's possible. You have to take the control voltage from the tuning potentiometer of unit #1
and add it via a suitable summing resistor to the common pitch node of unit #2. But this requires some soldering and wiring between
the 2 units.

Best wishes
