a185 question

a185 question

2002-12-04 by ps_minor

hello all,
i'm a new member of the list and i have a question re the a185
bus access module.
i saw in the archives that this is the module necessary to prevent
tuning probs when using a slew limiter for portamento. (i just
got an a171 and i'm experiencing this problem)

i have 2 6U cases, mostly doepfer, one w an a190. thing is, i
don't use the bus because my oscillators and most frequently
used filter are NONdoepfer (they're ASys). is the a185
substantial enough to keep voltages constant even when bus is
not part of the equation?

ASys has a solution but i prefer the a185 to the ASys cv buffer
mainly because the doepfer is smaller and 1/3 the price. on the
other hand the a185 has only 2 buffered cv outputs vs ASys's 7.

question: can the a185 hold up to having its output plugged into
a mult? will it sense the voltage draw and keep more than 2
oscillators in tune? (i commonly use 3, sometimes 4)

any insight is appreciated.

Hi ps

Welcome to the group.

I tried your proposed setup - A185 bus access module patched to an
A180 multiples, and from there to three VCOs (de-normaled from the
system bus). It stayed in tune with a reference pitch. Without the
A185 it didn't work.

I also tried it with an A170 slew limiter patched in before the A185.
Same result, no pitch problems with the A185 driving the VCOs via the
multiples.

It looks like your plan will work.

Joe

wow, excellent result joe! thanks for taking the time to try a patch
w this arrangement, hopefully others will benefit from your test
as i have.
coincidentally, i just ordered a 185 earlier today. to be honest, i
really didn't think it would work w a mult..glad to know know now
that it will.
cheers,
ps minor
