LC3 questions

2016-12-14 by neal@neallayton.co.uk

Dear all,

I've just bought an LC3 case 2nd hand and there are a couple of issues that I need help with.

Firstly one of the 16 way BUS board headers has one of the -12V pins missing. It looks like the two vertical rows on each header are duplicates of each other, so I assume the remaining pin will give -12v if I plug a module's ribbon cable to it? Or should I take it apart, and solder a new 16 way header strip in?

Secondly the external PSU brick's on off switch seems to be faulty, and not always creating an ON connection– I wondered where I can buy a replacement?

Thanks in advance,

Neal

Did you know it was faulty when you bought it? If not I'd take it back rather than fix it. It doesn't sound as though it was well card for by previous owner.

I’m afraid the deal is all done. I only checked it over very quickly so didn’t notice either of these issues, and the case looks immaculate part from this. But yes, next time I will pay closer attention to detail!

The missing -12V pin should be no problem as each pin is available twice.
You may order a new external PSU from the Doepfer representative in your
country. Replacing or bypassing the switch is also an option but has to be
carried out by qualified personnel only. Otherwise there is danger to life !

Many thanks for your reply– and for everything A100! :)

I have contacted the UK Doepfer seller but wondered is it possible to use another external PSU with the same specifications ie 15v 2.5A Linear, or would you recommend the model it sells with for stability?

Any power supply with the corresponding specs (14-16V AC / min. 2.5A) and a
suitable connector will work. Pay attention that AC is required (not DC).

Best wishes
