A-110 fail!

A-110 fail!

2016-12-21 by jbragg@fernforest.co.uk

I was adding modules into a new Waldorf KB37 which does seem excellent.

For some reason I got confused with which way round the power cables went - I think because I had a mix of Doepfer and non-Doepfer modules, and some seem to require a twisted cable.

So plugged in an A-110 with a twist in the cable - followed by an odd smell, and now it doesn't work!

What have I most likely done to it, and is it easily repairable!

Oddly a second A-110 didn't work properly either way, but is fine back in the Doepfer case, but a A-111 vco2 is fine in the new Waldorf case.

It is difficult to tell. Assumingly one of the two voltage regulators:
IC5 (looks like a power transistor) or IC4 (looks like a transistor).
See http://www.doepfer.de/a110_tec.htm
I'd plug the module in again and would test with the tip of my finger,
which IC gets hot...
