brand new A-156, the 5V regulator sticks out beyond the panel

brand new A-156, the 5V regulator sticks out beyond the panel

2016-12-24 by Vladimir Pantelic

got myself an xmas present, an A-156 Dual Quantizer and I noticed that the 7805
regulator sticks out beyond the panel.

see here: https://goo.gl/photos/DRdvVUyFmh4vc8Gs5

nothing I can't fix myself, but somebody else might have racked it as-is and
shorted something out on the module next to it...

Regards,

Vladimir

Hello,

I know of this issue, I used some pliers to bend the alloy cooling body. Careful not to bend near the IC, just somewhere halfway.

Greetings

Jacco

I just checked and both the Doepfer website and Schneiders show the regulator
sticking out, so I guess it's "well known" :) still I think one should not rely
on being able to use the airspace of the neighboring module...

as said, it's easy to fix for me, but I consider it a defect.

Since they are hand soldering the jacks to the back side of the PCB already, they could have easily done the same with the regulator, or designed it to lay flat or bend over. Easy enough for you to do yourself if you have any soldering chops.

Wow, I think mine is about ten years old, same! never ran into any
issues, but it depends on what it's next to of course,
no idea, but perhaps Doepfer modules are designed for that extra space?
They were about the only game in Euro even when this came out.
it's a great module, almost sold it once, then realized all the crazy
potential it has. So many uses. --

AW: [Doepfer_a100] brand new A-156, the 5V regulator sticks out beyond the panel

Sorry about the small problem with the regulator. The problem is known since
a few years as it may interfere with non-Doepfer modules next to the A-156.
Our manufacturer has been instructed to pay attention that the regulator
does not extend into the area of the module next to the A-156. Obviously
they overlooked this instruction. I'll remind our manufacturer to pay
attention.

Best wishes
