FW: [Doepfer_a100] A-138D FX insert query

2017-06-28 by Tim Burgess

Hi,

Just to report back that I now have glorious stereo reverb via my A-138D
units.

Thanks for the help guys, and apologies for me pressing the bypass button on
my brain.

Best wishes.

Only one that I can find (below)

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Other members surely are better equipped in terms of knowledge to help and
to support. I'll try to do it anyway, from far away it's even harder.

As far as I know, unbalanced sockets to balanced ones shouldn't be a
problem, but if you don't own XLR unbalanced to TS jack cables to try with
then it wouldn't be cool to purchase them just for this trial. By the way,
if the module is designed to work with pedals and stomp boxes only then a
problem of impedance bridging probably might occur, though a signal should
be heard anyway.

I neither know if the external unit is expected to work as serial
(compressor, limiter) or parallel (reverb, delay..), though you're
mentioning send/return then the latter should be the case.

So, if it is a delay reverb unit, I suggest first to check only sending the
signal to the unit, while connecting its outputs into a mixer channel strip,
a audio interface input or another available line input, instead of
returning the processed signal back to the A-138d. This way you can check if
the lack of audible signal was due to a knob to be better tweaked on the
Doepfer module. or just a wrong connection on it.

You might also check sending a signal from another unit, not the A-138d, in
order to see whether there was some inappropriate setting on the send
section of the A-138d.

Best regards,

Diego

Hi,

I've had mail problems at this end and may have lost any replies (apologies
to anybody who responded). Could I request reposts, please?

Best wishes.

Hi,

I have a pair of these modules that I want to use to hook an old TC effects
processor into my rig. However, the TC unit only provides XLR connections, a
left-right pair for input and another left-right pair for output. I have
some cables with the appropriate XLR genders at one end and 1/4@" TRS
connections at the other. However, when I wire this up, I get nothing back
from the effects unit. Unfortunately, I can't validate that signal is
getting as far as the effects processor, as I'm blind, so can't look at the
unit's meters. I assume that my problem is that the A-138D has unbalanced
sockets for the sends and returns, so I'm getting signal cancellation - is
this the case, please, or are there other things I might try?

I should say that the A-138D units are working fine as cross-faders.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Best wishes.

Tim Burgess

Hi Tim glad to know that you succeeded in that
I often press the bypass button on my brain, the difference is that I barely realise it! :-)

Best wishes
Diego
