Re: A-100 LC3 PSU (?)

Re: A-100 LC3 PSU (?)

2017-06-23 by Diego Ragnini

Sorry I was wrong in the description of the problem, forget it.

My worry here concerns the fact that a (not original) 1000mA transformer is used for a (supposed) 1200mA power supply. I say “supposed” because I don’t know whether this case came with a lower supply mA value than today’s model (the original Doepfer transformer installed today delivers 2400mA).

So, the PSU and the board are original Doepfer, the external transformer is not.

Do you think this might cause issues to the power supply, the board or the modules?

The link describes the not original transformer..

http://www.velleman.eu/products/view/?country=fr&lang=en&id=365838 <http://www.velleman.eu/products/view/?country=fr&lang=en&id=365838>

Since I already own this case with 1200mA and the original ext. transformer (2400mA), would be technically possible to use this original transformer for both cases at the same time?

Best,

You may use this power supply. But the max. output current is then only
500mA. Please refer to the information on our website:

www.doepfer.com > English > PRODUCTS > A-100 > DIY case kit:

"to operate the kit an external transformer with 14-16V/2.4A AC is required,
the current of the transformer has to be twice the value of the +/-12V DC
current, the max. value is 2.4A (corresponding to 1200mA for +/-12V DC),
even smaller current output is possible; the current output of the power
supply is half the current of the external transformer as the currents for
both voltages +/-12V are required (if e.g. the transformer outputs max.
1000mA the max. power supply current is 500mA for +/-12V)"

Best wishes

Hi Dieter thanks a lot for this specification

Otherwise, could I use the original 2.4A Doepfer transformer (which belongs to a case I already own) to operate the TWO kits simultaneously? (Assuming that an adapter to double the plug could be found…)

AW: [Doepfer_a100] Re: A-100 LC3 PSU (?)

I do not recommend to use one transformer for two units. Each A-100LC3
should have it's own transformer. As the transformer has 2.4A available the
max. current would be 600 mA only (= 2400/4). And if the wiring of the
second connector is wrong you generate a short circuit and will damage the
transformer and possible the supplies and installed modules.

Best wishes
