Chip Upgrade A-126 to TL074

Chip Upgrade A-126 to TL074

2017-07-13 by acgenerator@att.net

I upgraded my A-126 TL064s to TL074 (low-noise). Very noticeable reduction for the carrier noise at large frq. shifts. Note this will be a uptick in power consumption.

Documenting for future generations.

Thanks for the tip!
Did you have to calibrate it after?

I haven't done that yet post chip swap. I prolly should hook it into a scope and re-calibrate. I purchased it used very recently and adjusted it a bit to reduce noise when I got it. The carrier wave was still very noticeable for me (especially when recorded) so I did the chip swap and have been pleased with the results.

I'm considering doing an A-143-9-esque mod as well after I get a little bit more familiar with the boundaries of it's current capabilities (and satisfied with it's placement in the rack).

Have you done the mod? I'm not sure if I understand exactly gets improved. I see "It enables frequency shifting even below 50 Hz generating e.g. these mellow beat sounds with a few Hz frequency shifting only. "
But I'm not sure if that mean "wider range of shifting... (i.e you can shift as low as 50 Hz)" or "more precise shifting... (ie you can make very small shifts with as little as 50 Hz change)" or both or something else.

In the ideal sense I'd like to make the mod in a way that:
- preserves the option to use the frequency shifter and LFO/OSC as stand alone as well....either via switch, patchable Breakout panel, or jumpered connection. I think any of those options can be done with only a minimal amount of work.

- potentially allow me to have multiple carrier wave options e.g. I could use A-143-9 and/or other suitable quadrature LFO/VCOs interchangeably. It may require a bit of research on my end to determine the best carrier waves for the job.

yes, The internal Osc doesn't go low enough. The 143-9 ss is great for the low and subtle shifts.

Very different from the crazy stuff it does. simple /easy mod, recommended.

best,

phil

Has anyone tried the A-110-4 (1st edition with no amp kit) as a source for the a-126 pitch shifter and how were the results ?

I would personally be very happy if the long new version of the A126 would see the light of day...
The one that was sort of announce when the A143-9 was released.
I recently had the change to play with an original A126 and boy that sounded good!
Dieter any plans in the release schedule??

all the best,

Ernst

I asked the same thing a while back. It's in the pipeline but not at the top of the list. We will have to be patient I'm afraid.

Exactly. We have currently about 10 new modules in the holding pattern. The
new frequency shifter (and also the pitch-to-voltage converter) is among
them but has no priority because we expect a stronger demand for the other
modules.

Best wishes

really looking forward to the frequency shifter! \o/
