A-116 Waveform Processor DC Modification

A-116 Waveform Processor DC Modification

2018-06-27 by XCVII

“The VC Waveform Processor A-116 is a very complex module, which, especially through the modulation of clipping level and symmetry parameters, can give any number of sometimes drastic waveform transformations.”

Though it requires a scope in many instances and the user is required to constantly ride an output attenuation in response to new levels from CCV and SCV, this statement is absolutely true.

Having said that, the A-116 needs also a DC input mode. Such a modification would allow us to drastically transform LFO signals, etc. Could this be achieved simply?

For this you have to shorten the two capacitors C1 and C2 (both 0.68uF)

Hello,

First post after being away for very long from this group. Happy to be back.

This modification seems very interesting but since I'm really quite bad at electronics I'm wondering what is "shortening the capacitor".

I googled it and I found different type of answers so I'm afraid eventually I need someone to explain precisely what it means and how to achieve it.

Thanks and all the best,

Alexandre

I believe what Dieter mean was “short”, as in jumper across the legs of the caps essentially bypassing their AC coupling effect.

You can just solder a small piece of wire across the pads for each cap, or remove the cap and replace with wire.

Hello Nicholas,

Thanks for yr reply.

The solution you are proposing (soldering the legs together 2 by 2) is one I had come across on Google.

So I believe I will try that one out with my very limited electronics and soldering skill !

All the best,

A

Hello Alexandre,

for AC/DC coupling details please refer to the DIY page of our website:

between AC and DC coupling

For the A-116 the corresponding capacitors are C1 and C2 (both 0.68uF).

Best wishes

How would one go about if you wanted to put in a switch to choose between AC or DC coupling?
