Doepfer

Okay.  I've decided, that although the Doepfer group is really most 
excellent, there is room for another group for modular synthesists.  
The new group is Modular Synthesis Techniques, and is a non-
manufacturer specific group.

Basically, I intend for it to be a no-hold-barred forum for 
discussing modular synthesis in every form.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide beer and snacks.

I have a feeling the modular synth talk action may be on the verge of
getting too divided to make another forum as viable as it might otherwise
be.  There are users groups for Doepfer, Analogue Systems, Synthesizers.com,
MOTM, Oakley, MOTM panels, Buchla, Serge, and others, along with Analogue
Heaven, and ModularSynthDotCom.  There's also the modular synth discussion
on The Gas Station.

I wish this group every success, but I just wonder whether the creation of
another group will lead to more and livelier modular synth discussions or
rather dilute an already pretty diluted discussion.

And sadly, I have a feeling you're right, especially about the 
modular synthesis community becoming divided.  

It seems that the hostility between users of one instrument or 
another has all but killed creative discussion about synthesis.  

The Doepfer group seems to be the most open minded, which is one of 
the reasons I come here, and will continue to do so.

I simply thought it would be interesting to open an area for modular 
synthesis discussion where brand interest and loyalty are not the 
subject of the forum.

thanks for your good opinion about the doepfer group.
i'll try to keep this group open minded...
i,for a start,have the a100 monster,rs integrator
system 1,a concussor 6U system and i think that all
these modular synths have their good points and
strengths. :-)

I don't agree much with this. I don't think I have ever experience any kind
of synthbrand fan hooligans. What point would there be in badmouthing users
of other brands. The only bad feelings I have picked up has been between
users and non caring manufacturers. I own a few synths of different brands
myself and this far only kurzweil has been a brand that hasn't had any user
flamings that I have noticed. Doepfer has had a bit of digrunted users
(myself at some part included), but it seems like Dieter is shaping up real
good here in the relations to the forum.

But on the other hand I haven't seen any really good discussions about synth
techniques since I left the K2000 list. That was a real programmers heaven
at some times. But on the other hand I find modular synths easier to just
fiddle around with than approaching in a very thought out manner. Anybody
else feel the same?

Anyway good luck with that new list. Personally I will stay with this group
just for the doepfer news.
