Hi Bret,

The A100 does not have a 5V source as standard (unless your rack came with a midi interface). You need the 5V adapter. This is a simple little pcb that plugs into one of the plugs on the power bus. It then uses the +12V and converts to 5V using 7805 regulator and pushes the 5V onto the relevant bus line.

Regards

David

Season's greetings everyone!

I'm experimenting with creating my own modules and ran into a big unknown.
The rack frame and power supply should supply +5 volts and +/- 12 volts.
However, it *seemed* (and I probably did something wrong) that the +5 volts
was not there. To check, I built a simple circuit with a resister, and used
a volt meter to check the presence of the +5 volts. Nada. This seems
strange, because all my modules are working just fine.

The LED next to +5 volts isn't on. The LEDs near +/- 12 volts is on.
Perhaps those LEDs turn on only when a module uses that power source?

Does anyone have experience in tapping into this +5 volt source? Can
someone instruct me how to build a simple circuit that uses this power
source?

Much thanks! I'm obviously more ambitious than experienced...
- Bret
