Modified my A-117 Digital Noise Generator

Modified my A-117 Digital Noise Generator

2003-05-30 by Tim Stinchcombe

Hi list,
Having despaired last night at not being able to clock my A-
117 digital noise module with my A-111, this morning I took penknife
and soldering iron to it. I have 'reconfigured' it, moving one of the
Schmitt triggers from being after the internal clock but before the
input, to _after_ the input. It now 'squares up' the incoming clock
signal immediately before passing it to the shift register generating
the noise. The upshot of this is is now I can clock it with just
about any oscillator: whatever it was about my A-111 output it didn't
like before (even the square wave output), it will now happily run
from any of the outputs; previously if I tried it with an A-110 it
would invariably settle into a weird, (non-noisy) steady oscillation
state - now it runs noise-like as I want it to. In fact it will run
from any attenuated sine wave as long as it is greater than about +/-
1V in amplitude.

The modification requires cutting 4 tracks and adding 4 straps (and
is moderately fiddly). If anyone else has been experiencing this
frustration, and wants to know the details, let me know and I shall
write some instructions and post them (and if I can persuade my mate
with the digital camera to visit and take a few snaps of it, post a
few pictures too).

Cheers,
	Tim

And vactrol filters and phasers...

Hi ph

Aren't there some guitar foot stomper boxes that use vactrols for
compression (boss CE2 ?). It should be quite simple to modify them.

hi
yes please, I would like A117 to work with A111 as well
please please, some details about how to do the change.
doepfer kinda said they would put a page about simple module
modifications in february but they didnt
thanks

For those that expressed an interest in this, I have created a folder
in the 'Files' section containing a text file of instructions, and
three photos of my modified unit. (Thanks go to Mike for the photos.)

Any questions or comments, then get in touch!
