Ribbon controller

Ribbon controller

2002-01-21 by d_salteruk

Hi Bakis & everyone else.

I was wondering if there has been any feedback from from Dieter on
this one.

Looking at the Kurzweil unit
(http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/html/expmate.html)

as a general guide (forget pedal and breath inputs), the length is
about right and if it had a range switch, say 1V - 5V and a fine tune
pot and outputs for CV, gate and pressure (maybe a pressure
sensitivity pot as well)it would make a realy nice controller.

Just curious.

Regards

David

Hi David’ and others

I use the kurzweil ribbon controller with partial use of the mcv24, it makes
an excellent instrument on it’s own as well as with sequencer and/or
keyboard.

It has an enormous amount of playing potential and a locking arpegiator to
boot

RE: [Doepfer_a100] Ribbon controller

Hello again

I was just thinking and well where do we vote for new modules etc? Also
would people be interested in a poly-oscillator, Everything else in the
doepfer range allows for a poly working system but the tuning of let’s say a
minimum 8 oscillators makes it very difficult. So if it where achievable to
chain the oscillators and use lets say global tuning, this would simplify
and stabalise the system. As all of our systems continue to grow I’d
imagine we all dream of an open-ended system such as doepfer, which can be
played polyphonically with real analogue oscillators.

Hi TJ

> Also would people be interested in a poly-oscillator,
No.

To my oppinion this is not very senseful:
Lets say a simple voice (like a Polysix):
100 EUR for the VCO
 70 EUR for the VCF
 55 EUR for the VCA
 50 EUR for the ADSR
---
275 EUR ofr one super simple voice

multiplied with 8 gives 2200 EUR

There is no LFO, no Mixer, no Noise, no Housing, no interface, no
nothing...

Sorry: Polyphony is a job for a nord modular (or a CS80 or a Jupiter 6 or
or...)

It won't be easier if you put it into one module.
It is senseful only in a CPU controlled environment like the polyphonic
machine, with programmable tuning.

May i suggest a linux embedded multi usage computer module ? :)

It could be a large module but with a cheap 4 outputs cards, you could make a
generic 4 voices modules plus a lot of possible goodies like sequencing and
CV outs.

Hopefully without a flashy screen.

well,can be simpler...you could have 4 voices!!so the
price would be:1100 euros plus a mixer(40 euros)and a
noise gen.(45 euros),and 4 lfo's(180 euros).so,it's
1365 euros plus the doepfer mcv24 that is needed for
midi control:about 1800 euros!!o.k,not cheap but try
the new alesis andromeda or a waldorf Q...as you see,
compared to these polyphonic synths isn't so
expensive(AND YOU ALWAYS HAVE A MODULAR SYNTH!!not
just a polyphonic analog...)
