I was under the impression that we'd already concluded that the eurorack pieces cost pretty much what doepfer was charging for them,
and that, if people wanted, it was simple enough to get them from any number of other suppliers.

Hell, if people want to build their own racks, then surely they can spend 10mins clicking about on the internet to find a supplier
in their own country. These things are not rare!

What Paul was saying was not that he wanted the piece parts, but that he wanted rails, like the motm system, so, yes, im sure he
will click no, the same as anyone else who's got more a few mins time to click about on the internet will probably do so. How
useful is the existing vote?

Wouldn't it be ^way^ more useful to hold a vote on what Paul was asking for? Have you seen the motm rails? Do you know what's being
discussed here?

Again, if anyone wants the eurorak parts, why not just go buy them? Why take up doepfers time stocking them?

What about a vote:

Would you like a 2 rail set, similarto that offered by motm, for mounting modules?
Would you like a multilead psu to go with this, accepting the cost of the necessary safety enclosure for it?

I suspect many would answer yes to the first, and no to the second, being happier to electrocute themselves on supplies from the
likes of power-one and the like ; ) But, either way, wouldn't that be a far more valuable vote?

I don't want to build my own frame. I don't want a frame. I want to be
able to put modules in any onld rack. I need rails & a power supply.

Let's get this right!

The point is that the poll is misleading. I *do* want a separate power
supply that doesn't need a buss board, but voting no will give the wrong
answer.

was the pool designed to answer all your (private) needs, or to suit

of course, i've seen doepfer modules thrown in old beat up suitcase
with atx power supply , all connected to self-made busboards. it
looked like a $20 project. and it worked :) unless we're here to

No, and I don't think most people would want to build a frame. It would
cost approx the same. This has been pointed out numerous times.

p.s. are there any known cases of a-100 user electrocution? could be a
nice theme for next patch project.

Some of us don't want to electrocute themselves, nor do we want our $4000
modular in a beat up suitacase.

If you are not interested in a power supply/rails arrangement, that is fine
& your opinion. No need to tell me & others that do that it is without
merit. you won't be successful in convincing me that I *don't* want them...
so, I'm not quite sure of the purpose behind your debates.

In any case (pun intended) , we've got the poll going, so let's move on to
more interesting subjects!

Re: New poll for Doepfer_a100

2005-03-10 by selfoscillate

hello paul,

maybe i'm wrong but i think that european companies have
a lot more legal problems with separated devices than
american companies. the needed certificate is really
expensive, maybe in the usa it is cheaper and thats
why companies like motm can come up with such a
power supply solution? is this correct or not? anybody?

best wishes

ingo

You want a powersupply in a secured, closed housing that might be
mounted in the back or as a separated module.
This gives nearly a unsolvable legal(!!!) and financial problem for
Doepfer: CE tests for a separated device cost a f*cking lot of money.
Also the already mentioned producer responsiblity in the United states
would crash like a hammer.

I am sure Doepfer won't sell a closed power supply. No producer in
Europe who has kept his sanity and wants to sell his products to the
United States for reasonable prices will do that ever!

What is your problem buying a A100NT12 and a A100BUS? The costs are ok.

I doubt it. As I've mentioned too many times already, MOTM does this & they
(he) is a much smaller company. There are no legal issues that make it not
worth doing. If MOTM can do it (and a million other manufacturers) so can
doepfer.

So lets define a question for the poll you really want:

Would you like a separate powersupply with power cables instead of a
rail for the price of around 300 Euro?
o Yes, I would buy one
o No, I don't need that
o May be, I am not sure

Uuupps 300 Euro?
Yes: I assume 10000 Euro for the CE-certificate, divided by 50 entities
produced, gives 200 Euros.
65 Euros for the electronics (the price for the A100NT12)
35 Euros for the Housing (assumingly not enough, but I don't want to
spoil your game)

So now Bakis, please set up the poll.

MOTM is US, not Europe. MOTM do not have to obey the CE conformity.

That's ridiculolus. There is no power supply on the market that already
has these voltages that a snake of connectors cannot be added to?

How does MOTM sell theirs for $159.

I swear, what's wrong with you people? You're so opinionated that you WANT
this idea to fall apart? You want to be right more than you care about the
product?

Do you just want me (and everyone else who wants this) to be wrong? WHY are
you arguing about it in the first place? It's a VALID idea.

Geez.

Ok, I've said my bit, I've explained it & re-explained it, obviously some
people still don't get it. I'm out. Being difficult just to be difficult
has got to bee the most geeky thing I've ever seen.

I've got some music to make. Bye.

Show me one with the CE certificate provided for any use (this excludes
for instance any computer power supply!) and I will buy it.
