16 X 4 Sequencer?

16 X 4 Sequencer?

Is there any chance for a simple 16X4 sequencer module that is driven
from the a-154?  It would basically be just a sequencer programmer
with 16x4 knobs, 16 leds, and 4 row outputs.  Is it possible that
something like this could be made cheaply enough that the sequencer
programmer + the 154 would come in around the same price as the MAQ? 
Or is that wishful thinking?

I am not inside Doepfer, but in general, the A-154 is a basis to connect 
to several simple sequencer like modules. The electronic "effort" is not 
to high. But the costs might be determined by the amount of mechanical 
parts (potentiometers and switches), which are required. These are more 
expensive than electronic parts, like integrated circuits, resistors, etc.

I think Florian is right...16*4= 64 potentiometers cost quite some cash.
I haven't seen the inside of the 154, but i PRESUME it has a 4 bit
counter inside for the adressing ..so basically you would connect 16*4
pots to 4 16<->1 analog switch-ICs that you can control with these 4
bits...but in reality it will most likely be a whole lot more
electronics than just these switches and pots

I was thinking that it couldn't cost that much more than the MAQ
($799) and the hardware alone (64 pots & knobs) can't cost as much as
the Drehbank ($500).  Even if the module cost $800 plus $200 for the
154, it would be a pretty attractive alternative to the other 16X4
sequencers out there.  It would have many of the features of something
like the Milton or the Serge TKB at a fraction of the cost and it
would still be cheaper than the number of 155s required to put
together an equivalent patch.

right, but the address bits are not generated by a normal 4 bit counter but
by a microcontroller to obtain the different modes (forward, backward,
pendulum, random, voltage controlled and so on).

You could use e.g. CD4051 analog multiplexers for the sequencer circuit
(same are used in the A-155 and MAQ16/3).
