bryan,
its more for buffering cv`s going to vco`s in other frames. i got one with
my original purchase back in `99 because i misunderstood what it was for and
thought it was "necessary" - i`d say its not and i`m using my doepfer modules
with stuff from wiard, serge, etc. too.

A buffer has two sides which are protected by it.

You may exclude the influence of the reciever to the sender, or vice
versa. It does not have to be that the A100 itself requires it, but an
external device may need it. Especially the Gate often requires buffering.

hello florian,
as i have a big modular, i use many a185's. they are
useful for me for cv buffering and also work for me as
mini multiples and monitoring of the cv and gate
signals inputed in the buss board of each a100 row.
i have also noticed that gate signals going to other
modulars sometimes need buffering!
so, i would say that if you want to control more than
3 vco's from the same cv signals, the a185 is usefull.
and you reduce the need for multiples and cable mess a
bit, as the a185 gives you access to all a140's and
a110 and a11's of the same module row via a single cv
and gate input(that of the a185).
best regards,
bakis.

Hello guys,
I've got two A110 and two A140 in one of my portable suitcases.
I've thought of getting an A-185, mainly because I tend to block the
multiple with splitting CV to VCOs and Gate to ADSRs.

Question:
The VCOs are on the upper row and the ADSRs are on the lower.
Is there an easy way to connect the CV in of a185 to the upper bus
board and the Gate to the lower bus board?
Or better, can I link the two bus boards together?
I don't think the A185 manual clearly explains this.

Of course one solution is to move the modules around or connect the
modules in the lower row to the upper bus board.. but I don't know if
the ribbon cable is long enough for that.

I've also got an A142. (Nice module with lots of uses.)
Does the A-142 take Gate from the bus board?

/gustaf

hello gustaf,

there is a special cable available to connect both buss boards
of a g6 frame or suitcase, you will find it in the
doepfer price list.

afaik the a142 is not supported by the system buss,
but i'm not 100% sure. in any case a special ribbon cable can
be made to supply a link to the buss board, but you have to
do some soldering for it (connection from the internal gate
to the switch contact of the trigger input jack).
you can find more information on the doepfer diy page.

best wishes

ingo

Re: [Doepfer_a100] Re: A-185

hello,
there are two special cables(one for cv and the other
for gates) with which you connect the upper and lower
bus boards, so they share the same cv and gate
signals. this way your a185 will distribute the cv and
gate signals received in its inputs, to both bus
boards.
look at the doepfer website(in technical details, i
think)to see how this cable is connected.
regards,
bakis
