Re: Pitch bend trick.

2000-12-14 by Nathan I Smutz

Thanks Suzanne. If I had been smart I would have just figured out the
right envelope setting and pitch shifted that way. I'm no master
synthesist. I'm concerned that I sounded like a smarty pants in my last
post.

It seems that there is more going on besides the use of a different part
of the multi sample. Pitch shifters do some pretty fancy processing
don't they. I thought the distortion you get when you shift up an octave
(and tranpose back down) is interesting. This seems like it could be due
to a loss of resolution. I would expect a loss of resolution pitch
shifting downward rather than upward. At higher pitches, the sample rate
is closer to the pitch of the sound and each sample would be a greater
part of the wave.

By the way, do we have a policy about uuencoded patches in posts? I
should have asked this before I attached my patch last time. Sorry. It
looks like the attachment got filtered out anyway. If anyone's
interested in the patch, I can send it to you.

Soli Deo Gloria,
Nathan
